Imagine swimming into an ocean so enormous that eventually there is no coastline, no road, no signpost and no familiar landmark anywhere around you.
For a sea turtle, this is not an extraordinary event.
It is life.
Some sea turtles undertake migrations covering thousands of kilometres, travelling through vast expanses of apparently featureless ocean before reaching feeding grounds, migratory corridors and nesting regions.
Yet they possess access to navigational information that human beings cannot naturally perceive.
Earth itself provides part of the map.
Research has shown that sea turtles can detect Earth's magnetic field and obtain at least two different kinds of information from it.
One provides direction, functioning as a magnetic compass.
The other provides information associated with geographic position.
Earth's magnetic field is not identical everywhere.
Its intensity varies geographically, as does magnetic inclination, the angle at which magnetic field lines intersect Earth's surface.
Different regions of ocean therefore possess different combinations of magnetic characteristics.
Experiments have demonstrated something remarkable.
When young turtles are exposed to magnetic fields replicating those found at different locations along their migratory routes, they can alter their swimming direction in ways appropriate to those locations.
The ocean may look the same.
The magnetic information is not.
This ability has been described as a biological magnetic map.
Scientists are continuing to investigate precisely how sea turtles physically detect magnetic information, but decades of behavioural research provide compelling evidence that geomagnetic cues contribute to their navigation.
There is another extraordinary dimension to this story.
Female sea turtles can return to nest within the same general regions from which they originated many years earlier.
Research suggests that the magnetic characteristics associated with natal areas may contribute to this remarkable homing ability.
The turtle therefore gives September 16 an extraordinary correspondence.
Orientation.
Human beings frequently believe that knowing where we are going should mean knowing exactly how we are going to get there.
But direction and route are not the same thing.
A route gives instructions.
Direction gives orientation.
There are moments in life when we possess one without the other.
You may know that a relationship is no longer right without knowing what relationship eventually replaces it.
You may recognise that your work needs to change without knowing the title of your next position.
You may know that a boundary needs to be created without knowing how another person will respond.
You may feel yourself becoming interested in something new without understanding where that curiosity will eventually lead.
And because the destination remains invisible, we sometimes convince ourselves that we know nothing.
The sea turtle challenges that assumption.
Information can exist before the entire route becomes visible.
Human intuition can work in a similar way psychologically.
Our minds continuously process patterns.
Tone of voice.
Behaviour.
Repetition.
Inconsistency.
Previous experience.
Changes in our own emotional responses.
Sometimes conscious reasoning can explain immediately why something feels right or wrong.
Sometimes the brain has registered a pattern before we have found language for it.
That does not mean every feeling is accurate.
Fear can feel like intuition.
Hope can feel like certainty.
Past experiences can influence how we interpret present circumstances.
Instinct still benefits from evidence.
But we should not assume that information has no value merely because we cannot yet explain exactly where it came from.
The Waxing Crescent Moon on September 16 provides a fitting celestial correspondence.
The illuminated portion of the Moon continues increasing as it approaches First Quarter.
The complete picture has not yet appeared.
Nevertheless, there is enough light to continue.
The Moon also moves from Scorpio into Sagittarius during the Greenwich day.
Symbolically, Scorpio looks beneath the surface.
It investigates what is hidden, what is influencing us and what lies underneath appearances.
Sagittarius then turns toward movement, exploration, distance and the horizon.
Together they create a beautiful sequence.
Look deeper.
Recognise the information.
Establish direction.
Then move.
There is something else the sea turtle teaches us.
Navigation does not mean travelling in a perfectly straight line.
Ocean currents move.
Conditions change.
Information changes.
The animal continually responds.
Direction therefore does not require rigidity.
You can alter your course without abandoning your destination.
You can discover new information and change your decision.
You can move around an obstacle without interpreting the detour as failure.
You can realise that the direction you originally chose was wrong and orient yourself again.
Perhaps one of the greatest mistakes we make is waiting for certainty when orientation would be enough.
We want the complete map.
Life frequently gives us a compass.
So today the question is not whether you can see exactly where something ends.
Ask instead whether you already possess enough information to recognise which direction takes you closer to where you belong.

In my sessions I work by creating a focused energetic thread between us as well as anyone that you want to bring in. I combine intuitive tuning, my own oracle work, and a form of automatic writing to gather clear insight. In order for that process to stay accurate and undiluted, I need one question at a time, typed out and isolated. When questions are bundled together, the energy becomes scattered and it affects the precision of what comes through. I also offer palmistry readings. In order to do this I will need both hands clearly showing all lines. I need a minimum of 15 minutes for this type of reading please note that this is not fortune telling.
